All you need to know about Silicone PTFE fabrics

Silicone and PTFE fabrics withstand high temperatures, chemicals, and moisture. Silicone is a rubbery, abrasion resistant coating available in grey. Silicone fabrics provide better UV, water and abrasion resistance than PTFE fabrics. PTFE is a smooth, non-reactive coating commonly known by the brand name Teflon. PTFE fabrics are ideal for applications where added toughness and chemical resistance are required. Silicone and PTFE fabrics are commonly used as the outer layer of insulation blankets to protect from moisture and the outdoor environment. These high temperature fabrics are also frequently used in fire blankets or welding curtains that protect workers and equipment from heat and fire. Silicone and PTFE fabrics offer superior resistance to chemicals, abrasion, moisture, and heat. Silicone fabric can withstand operating temperatures up to 500°F and PTFE fabric can withstand temperatures up to 575°F.  Both Silicone and PTFE feature a fiberglass cloth base beneath the high temperature coating. The fiberglass cloth can with stand temperatures up to 1000°F, even if the Silicone or PTFE coating burns off.

Common Applications:

  • Insulating jacketing
  • Welding curtains
  • Blankets and covers for equipment protection
